Culligan Water Conditioning was formed in 1965 with the acquisition of the
established Culligan Water Conditioning franchise that started at the
north end of Chualar community and extended to the southern point of the
Monterey County Line. At the time the company consisted of the owner, 2
employees and a customer base of 570. In 1971, Mike Hebert saw the great
potential this company had and purchased the Salinas Culligan franchise. In
1976, the company incorporated and became Quality Water Enterprises, Inc.
DBA Culligan Water Conditioning.
From April of 1978 through October 1980, the company purchased 3 more
established Culligan franchises, covering all of Monterey and Santa Cruz
counties, and bringing its customer base to 5250. Then in 1994, Mike Hebert
acquired 2 competitive companies, Servisoft of Salinas and Servisoft of
Monterey, making the company the largest water conditioning company on the
Central Coast serving more than 14,000 customers.
Now operating solely out of Salinas, the company occupies an efficient and
environmentally friendly plant, reclaiming 30-40% of salt and water and
hauling over 13,000 gallons of brine to the Monterey Regional Water Quality
reclaim plant every week. Within this facility is the only DI regeneration
plant on the central coast.
Culligan and it's employees have given back to the community over the years
either through sponsorship, monetary contribution, or through active
involvement. Some of which include, the California Rodeo, Salinas Spurs, all
area high schools and sports programs, the American Cancer Society, Monterey
County Sheriff's Posse, Carmelite Monastery, Junior League of Monterey
County, Meals on Wheels, Hartnell College Foundation, Indian Guides, Boy
Scouts of America, and the Sun Street YMCA.
In August of 1975, Mike Hebert and Dr. Keilin were issued a United States
Patent for the development of a Salt Recovery System that would take brine
effluent from and ion-exchange water softener and evaporate the brine from
the solution. The purpose was to stop the salt water from entering the
municipal sewage treatment plants. This is crucial for the commercial and
industrial user who are in a community where water reclamation and reuse is
being practiced.
Today, Culligan offers the highest quality water treatment products and
equipment to the residents and businesses of both Monterey and Santa Cruz
counties.
