Since the FDA’s approval of ozone as an anti-microbial
agent in 2001, ozone sanitation systems have been widely
accepted as an effective means to improve food safety and
quality. Recently there has been an increased focus on food
safety in connection with pathogens in fresh produce. Culligan has installations in numerous agri-food facilities where sanitation is paramount. These facilities are involved in activities ranging from packaging fresh fruit and vegetables to processing meat, poultry and seafood products.

" The food processing industry is the latest U.S. industry to embrace ozone. Food processors across the country consume billions of gallons of water daily for washing foods and food equipment, for transporting various edibles through flumes, for cooking and for mixing into foods that are bottled, jarred or bagged."
EPRI JOURNAL- JULY/AUGUST 1997
Recently classified " Generally Recognized as Safe" by the FDA, Ozone is being embraced by food producers for it's versatility. Introduced to air, Ozone can disinfect a room for food storage; ozone can be added to water to wash produce. The use of Ozone in produce operations reduces bacterial count in water, eliminates the discharge of harmful chlorine residuals, and reduces waste water with no harmful byproducts.
